Organization Hierarchy

Hi,
I am implementing Inventory  to an enterprise which had installed Inventory and General Ledger.

I configured an Organization Hierarchy to can use Open Period Control Process, and with it open Inventory Organizations periods at once.

I want to know if there is another advantage of Organization Hierarchy use to have the full functionality enabled.

Are there some advantage  to use between Inventory and General Ledger with Organization Hierarchy?
