SYSAUX 'stuck' in RECOVER mode

I was trying to do a online backup today and got the error and it made my ONLINE backup fail:

BR0334E Status of database file /oracle/BDE/sapdata12/sysaux_2/sysaux02.dbf is RECOVER BR0314E Collection of information on database files failed
Digging around I find that there hasn't been a backup in a week (don't hassle me on that one) AND someone in my group had added a second datafile to the sysaux tablespace BUT didn't size it and left it on autoextend. So.. Can I fix the size?  Right now it is under 500M... Can I do the following?
