Changing the accounting key flexfield

We're currently on 11.5.10.2 utilizing GL, FA, AP, AR, Procurement, iProcurement and Cash Management.  We have 2 sets og books in GL that have different accounting key flexfield structures.  Each set of books has numerous operating units within.

We're in the process of desigining a solution to bring a new division of the company that currently resides on Great Plains, onto Oracle.  Before we convert them, however, we'd like to restructure our existing businesses.

We want to modify the existing accounting key flexfield, combine the 2 existing sets of books, and then convert the Great Plains users.

I'd like to k now if we need to do a complete reinstall of our GL or if it's possible to utilize our current environment and just change the accounting key flexfield structure.  Originally I didn't think changing the flexfield was an option, but I've recently been told by a consultant that it can be done.  I haven't been able to find any information on Metalink on that subject, so I'm reaching out to the experts here.

Howdy, Stranger!
