OPENLDAP/OID

Hi,
Does  anybody know if openldap is supported for database name resolving or do you have to use OID ?
If you use OID only for database name resolving, is it true it is part of the database license, so you can use OID for "free" (i read that on the internet http://oracle-cookies.blogspot.com/2007/01/get-tnsnamesora-from-openldap.html).
