Create Test database from backups

I would like to create a Test database from the nightly backups. Here is what I am trying to accomplish. I have a database (version 9i) on one machine and I would like to take the nightly backups and create a test database on another machine. Is there a way to accomplish this without copying the .dbf files to the machine the test database will be on? Would it be possible to set up the test database so that it will look to the other machine for the needed information?  Any help would be appreciated.
