Check Printing - Vertical Alignment Footer setting issue

I am in the process of implementing a new check template.

The xml template loaded fine and I am able to print check batches.  However, when the check is printed to the check output has a 1/2 inch footer.  I have tried modifying the xml template to control the header and footer.  After trial and error, I have learned that the foot setting may be printer brand specific.  Is there a way to control this parameter in XML publisher for this template?
