Migration Vs Upgradation
I am very much confused with the words Upgradtaion and Migration.
I searched Metalink where I found two contradicting answers from two oracle employees.
The first one who is from OSS said that:
Migration is the moving from one Oracle version to another where the first number changes (e.g. moving from Oracle7to Oracle8 or Oracle8 to Oracle9).
An upgrade means moving from one Oracle version where the first number doesn't change (e.g. move from 7.3to 7.4 or 9.0 to 9.2).
The second one who is an Oracle Support Metalink Analyst said that:
Going from any version of 8.x.x to 9i is an upgrade.
