Access 10g database via MS Query (or other recommended tool)

Hi,

I have a number of users that have been accessing an 8i database via MS Query. I have now migrated this database to 10g and I can't get MS Query (via Excel 2007) to connect. I have created the ODBC connection in Microsoft ODBC administrator which tested OK, but when I go into Excel and try to run a query, i get an ORA-12170 Timeout error. I can access the Db via Crystal with no problem. Can anyone please suggest where I could be going wrong?
