Using 'duplicate database' in RMAN

I've been using this command to clone a RAC database to another RAC database, also single instance. Using 'duplicate database target to DBNAME;' works fine.  If I add 'until scn' and specify a valid SCN, it errors out with a message that Oracle says is bug related.  I don't agree but that's another story.

I notice in the RMAN output of 'duplicate database target to DBNAME' (no scn) that RMAN will determine the scn to start from.  My question is, how does RMAN determine the correct SCN?  I can't seem to give it the right one when I use the 'until scn' clause.

Howdy, Stranger!
