Oracle 10.2 on VMware - using snapshot for backup?

I recently came across a customer who is running Oracle 10.2 on VMware for their production database.  Clearly that is not a good thing since Metalink doc 249212.1 makes the Oracle support position very clear:

" Oracle has not certified any of its products on VMware virtualized environments. "

and

" Oracle will only provide support for issues that either are known to occur on the native OS, or can be demonstrated not to be as a result of running on VMware. "

I have explained to them that this could cause significant delays in Oracle providing support if they have to demonstrate that any problems are not VMware related, since they might have to reproduce the problem on a non-VMware server.
