Security /roles in 11.1.0.7

Hi,

Environment :  Sun Solaris 10, Oracle version 11.1.0.7 enterprise edition.

We are looking into a problem with our default role not being applied to standard users when they login.  Does anyone know of any bugs/known issues with roles and 11.1.0.7?  Have trawled metalink and google, but cannot see anything.  I know the CONNECT role has changed, and know only has create session priv, so initially thought that this as the culprit.  However, grant ALTER SESSION to my test user and still the default role not getting applied.

Interestingly, did not have these issues with the base release of 11g...

any pointers, much appreciated...
