Partitioning and Archiving in 11i HRMS

I am working with a customer that has a large HRMS instance installed.
We are reviewing the possibility of using database table partitioning to allow for archiving and purging of data.
I am looking for feedback from anyone who has partitioned HR tables, specifically partitioning strategies used and or partition keys defined.
