What are the pros and cons of using Oracle-Managed Files?

 (11g Enterprise Edition Server on Linux x86-64 and Sun Fire X4150 with 8x146GB disks and RAID) * 2 on the drawing board with Active Data Guard option

Hi,

From the document "Creating a Database Using DBCA", Step 7 - Database File Locations states three possible ways to specify the file locations.  I never use Oracle-Managed Files before, and wonder if this is a desirable choice for Data Guard setup, RMAN backup/restore, or day-to-day DBA.  With RAID there will be about 1.2TB of disk partition.
