Can't remove files in asmcmd; just hangs

 Long story short, I screwed up my little test RAC database and can't even get it started to delete it with dbca.  It's shutdown and I'm trying to delete the files in ASM.  I enter rm <filename>, the cursor drops down a line and just sits there and waits.  What should I be looking for?  Is there another way to delete ASM datafiles, controlfiles, etc.?
