I'm relatively new to RMAN but not to Oracle RDBMS as I'm the replacement for the DBA that was our RMAN guru.  Whether good idea/practice or bad, we use one host/one Oracle_HOME/one SID (BKUP) for our recovery catalog.  We use Veritas, w/oracle plugin, to perform our RMAN backups against multiple hosts each using one Oracle_HOME against multiple SID's.  Everything was on 10.2.0.3 and life was sweet.  Backups ran successfully, cloning via RMAN worked like a charm.

Then comes the April 2009 Security CPU which requires the upgrade to 10.2.0.4 before applying the patch.

Howdy, Stranger!
