Oracle Backup and Restore with no option of dataguard

 Hi All,
Assuming you have no option of using Oracle data guard and you have to synchronize between the production db and a backup database, which is the best way to go about achieving this from initial, the prod database is running on Archive Log, while the backup has been set up to have the same structure as the prod db. do I take a Cold or Hot backup of the prod database?
