Clean up of patch_storage area prior to applting a new patchset

I have an Ebusiness suite 10.2.0.3 database.  I am about to upgrade the database to 10.2.0.4.  Can I delete the contents of the .patch_storage area prior to the upgrade, to both reclaim space and to stop any attempt to rollback patches applied to the 10.2.0.3 system after the upgrade.
I have already run the "opatch util cleanup", which reclaimed a lot of the space from the area.
