Trying to perform search while DQM Synchronization is running causes an error

I've created 3 rules to help prevent duplication.  When a search is performed against one of these rules (ie hz_party_search.get_matching_contacts) while the DQM Synchronization process is running, I get an error.  The searches work fine any other time, just not during the few seconds the DQM Synchronization process is running.  Has anyone else had this problem?  Is there anything I can do about it?  I'd like to be able to sync as often as possible, and am using a 15 minute interval right now.
