Request Sets, Account Analysis Report and Shared Parameters

I am creating a request set that contains multiple Account Analysis Reports.  When submitted, they will have the same value in the period from/period to parameter. 
Am I right in thinking that by using the Share Parameter functionality it is possible for the user to populate the Period from/to range in the first request when they submit the request set, and this will then feed down to all of the other Account Analysis reports in the request set? 
If I have understood this correctly, is anyone able to confirm how this should be done in the request set?  I have tried populating the Shared Parameter field on the first report in the Request Set definition but this does not have any impact when submitting the request set.
