Turning off Fixed Assets

One of our clients, wants to take Fixed Assets out of eBusiness into a separate 3rd party product, and then turn off Fixed Assets in eBusiness.

Does anyone know of any good documents / pointers / things to be aware of when doing something like this.  I'm sure there's going to be a lot of issues lurking beneath the surface which I need to investigate related to data, maintaining hostorical data, access and ongoing patching of the application, but hopefully someone may have some experience of this so can advise of any experience to save me going through the same pain.
