How to define Alternate items in BOM (Not Alternate BOM)

Hi

Can anyone suggest me how to define Alternate items in BOM (Not Alternate BOM).

Ex:. My company is a manufacturer of Silent DG Set from 15 - 300 KVA

I made the BOM for 20 KVA DG Set & add child item 20 KVA Engine , 20 KVA Alternator

Some time I do'nt have stock of 20 KVA Engine , then I can use alternate of 25 KVA Engine

How to map the same in System,Please suggest.
