Staged applications system for 11.5.10 upgrade

We are upgrading from 11.5.8 to 11.5.10.2. The CU2 patch (3480000) by itself runs for 70 hours. Anyone tried using a staged application system as described in metalink note 242480.1 for a maintenance pack release? Does it save any significant time?
