Export and Datapump slow on RAC instance

Is there any reason why a single user export in one instance of a 2 node RAC would take over 5 hours to complete when a full RMAN backup takes about 20 minutes?  Datapump acts the same way.  I would like to do a daily export of at least our main schema to supplement the RMAN backups.  Is there a parameter issue?  Does something else need to be done with a RAC instance to export from it?
