How do you search for help?

Sorry to ask an obvious question, but I can't figure out how to search for postings related to a specific problem, like I could in the old forums.

I have tried using the single small search box at the top of the community page, but it always returns no results, even when I see an exact match on a discussion list I am already looking at.

I find lots of matches when I go to 'classic forums', but if I try to post, I get scolded and sent to these new communities.

Also, when I just list all discussions (because I can't figure out how to search for related ones), and if I click on one that looks interesting, I get a full page of what looks like unformatted html, which is very hard to read.  Could I have a wrong browser setting or something, or is it just that this site is still in work?  Will all the content from the old forums be moved here at some point before they go away?
