Critical Patch Update on RAC environments

 When applying critical patch updates to a RAC environment that is on ASM.  Do you have to patch both homes ASM and DB?  When I read the README.html document it does not really specify that you must apply to both.  I will be applying CPUJul2009.  If the answer is yes, then I take it that I must export the appropriate home and sid for each environment before applying the patch.
