R12 upgrade speedup from 11.5.10.2 - customer wants to know how to speedup the upgrade of R12.1.1

  One of my customers ie., is moving from 11.5.10.2 to Release 12.11 vanilla instance, they are asking, " Are there any best practices to upgrade from 11.5.10.2 to release 12.11" , They are one of the biggest Oracle HR shops, and use only HRMS excluding payroll and benefits.
 ie., How to speedup the upgrade of R 12.1.1. They say the following:
 
Please let me know a faster way to perform the upgrade if there are any tips and tricks.
   
    Also, please let me know if the upgrade driver tries to upgrade only the installed products or it
    tries to upgrade all products available?
   
    I am trying to find ways to minimize the upgrade timings.
