Customizing ContentFolios

I have a need to extend the xml document (see: add properties to a node or slot) that is the backbone of a Folio. There are a few resource tables in the ContentFolios component that seem like they would be perfect candidates to make this happen, but I think I'm missing some key piece of information to bring it all together and make a working solution.

The two tables I've been trying with very limited success to add this extra information are: FolioDataDefinition and CpdExtraFormFields.

If I create a component and merge into FolioDataDefinition, and put a record in there, The component will give me a new property element for a node or slot, BUT at the expense of the first field, which is "Name." Name is a pretty important field and there's nothing in the table to determine order, so I don't know what is going on there. If I add two fields with my component, it uses the second one to overwrite the "Name" field on the page. Checking in the template and then creating a Folio from it also reveals that not

Howdy, Stranger!
