Testing RMAN Backups by Restoring to another Database
DB: 10.2.0.4, Standard Edition
OS: Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.2 (64-bit)
All,
I'm hoping to find some information/documentation on using RMAN backups from my Production database to populate my Disaster Recovery database. The two databases are on different boxes and currently I just run a full export of Production and import into DR when I need to refresh the DR box. I'd rather automate the process as well as start the regular testing of my production backups in the process.
The Production backups are EM-submitted RMAN jobs and are backup sets that include the control file and spfile that run nightly at midnight. If I recall correctly, Level 0s run once a week with Level 1s running the remainder of the week. The backups are saved to disk (SAN), with the last 31 days of backups available. I currently do not have the DR box hooked up to the SAN shares, but I can have that arranged if I determine what I'm asking is possible.
