Impact of running Posted Journal Entries Pre-upgrade Stand-alone Upgrade concurrent program

We are looking at running the "posted journal entries pre-upgrade stand-alone upgrade" concurrent program in accordance with the documentation for 11i to R12 upgrades.  The upgrade guide suggests this will "pre-upgrade" the journal information as a stand alone step so as to reduce the overall upgrade time.

I am curious to understand the following:

- has anyone else tried this and if so, what kind of timing impact did running this job ahead of time provide?

- once this "pre-upgrade" has occurrred, will the existing journal entries still be accessible both in the forms and through reports when the system is still operating in 11i?
