Equipment Inventory - Advanced Search

 On the equipment inventory advanced search screen there's a searchable field called IP Address. Since It's a searchable field I would like to associate an IP Address to the equipment.

Where do you assocaite an IP Address to an equipment shelf in your inventory?

We were thinking that we would have to add a custom attribute to record the IP address, but after digging around I saw this field in the search window, so I was thinking that this field must exist somewhere.

Any suggestions or direction will be greatly appreciated!!!
