No logging of listener after re-creation of listener.log

Dear all,

My listener.log is growing to a huge filesize that i can no longer housekeep, so i ftp out the log, mv the  file to another name and recreate another log of the same name. After this activity, i realised that no activity is logged in the newly created listener.log file.

What happens? Please help.
