HR Self Service automatic emails

When we use self service to add a qualification using the following instructions

You need to log in to Employee self-service, then under Professional Details, choose ‘other professional qualifications’ When you click on the button to add a qualification, the details are added to the core HR qualification screen. Ni approval email is sent to a manager.

how would I check whether an approval e-mail should be generated?
