Display item Images in Item Search result

We have a requirement from client that when the users search for the
items using either simple search or advance search function, we need
to display the item number, item revision and  item image in the search result window.

We are planning to store the image for each item revision at the
"Image" attachment category because currently in PIM standard
funtionality does not provide any way to store the item image for each
item revision.

Does any one has any idea?
