Parent and Child v Group Assets

I have noticed that with Parent and child assets it is really just for reference and Assets does not automatically perform the same transaction on a subcomponent asset when you perform it on the parent asset.

Do group assets perform the same transaction automatically on member assets?  Or really is the Group set up mainly to calculate depreciation at a high level and nothing else?
