Hi,

I am trying to size swap space for a new production oracle database. According to  Doc ID: 17094.1, oracle process reserves swap space (allocated) when start for future use. the size is the same as the virtual memory. since there is no command to show the allocated swap space instead of used space, it's hard to tell how much swap has been allocated.

Here is one of my database top result. the SGA is 8194m. the swap is 8394m. only 59m is used. the column VIRT shows the virtual memory for each process. if following Doc ID: 17094.1 calculation, the swap allocated for the first oracle process is 8416m. Since 8194m is shared memory for SGA, we don't need add this in the rest of oracle processes, but the sum of the virtual memory of all the oracle processes is still greater than the total swap size.

Howdy, Stranger!
