Can two node RAC use dataguard for one node standby? Best plan of action?

I have two local servers (Dell PE R610) and one remote server (PE2950). The Remote is really more of an offsite standby in case of local disaster - so hopefully it never runs!
I'm trying to figure out best approach.
Should I (can I) use RAC install on two local R610 oracle database servers and then use dataguard to keep remote standby current (real question here is does the remote standby have to be a RAC too)?
Or is my best bet to use dataguard on all three servers (the load on local R610 is minimal and one server can more than handle it), having one local dataguard solution and one remote dataguard?
