11g Memory_Target value

Dear All, I would like to check if there are any guide line for the memory_target value for different OS ?
I got a Sun T5220 with 4G Ram, 11g Release 11.1.0.7.0 - 64bit, how do I calculate the optimum value for memory_target ? Or I have to try & error for different value ?
