How do you validate/test your backup and recovery strategy?

Recently, the organization that I work for began to formalise their DR plans.  As part of that plan the DBAs have been tasked with providing and implementing methods to test the database backups and DR solutions like Data Guard.  Given all the tools available (Enterprise Manager Grid Control, Data Guard etc,) how would you go about this process?

My thought was to start preparing some rman scripts to validate and test the backupsets and use Grid Control to periodically run them against the target databases.  Most of our databases are 10gR2 on AIX but they're also a few Linux and Windows boxes as well.  For Data Guard setup - that may require scheduling switchovers for those that can accommodate downtime.

Howdy, Stranger!
