Io exception: The Network Adapter could not establish connection

Hi all, I've just created an ASM instance on a single node RAC.  Oracle binaries are 11.1.0.7 and the grid control is 10.2.0.5.
I get this error when going to the ASM Login page.
password file is created, I can login to the ASM instance locally.   There is a note 308098.1 that supposedly shows the fix to this, but if anyone has tried to use metalink today, then you know you can't get anything accomplished.
Does anyone know the fix?
