9i, 10g and 11g

We are planning to implement Oracle 10g or 11g onto an existing 9i server.  I mentioned this to an Oracle Contractor and he mentioned he had not seen this configuration before, but our onsite DBA believes this is a supported configuration.  Before proceeding with this, has anybody any recommendations on having different versions on the same server.  The OS is HP-UX 11.23
