10gR1 to 10gR2 same sid name

I need to upgrade our 10gR1 oracle installation to 10gR2.  The sid needs to be the same name.  When I read the document 316889.1, one of the first step says to "Install Oracle 10g Release 2 in a new Oracle Home".  It doesn't give any guidance as far as what to install.  Do I install a new instance?  Can it be the same name as the instance in the old Oracle Home?  I need it to be for too many reasons to type. 

I want to install 10gR2 on the same Windows 2003 Server with the same SID name as the 10gR1 installation.  Please advise and thanks.
