Can patches be downloaded from MOS using wget ?

 I want to use ftp updates.oracle.com or "wget" to download patches directly to a unix server instead of downloading from metalink and having the patch downloaded to my pc.  However updates.oracle.com does not seem to be available from either ftp or wget.  Is this download method being removed or is it just temporarily unavailable?  Downloading large patches to my PC is just impossible.
