Is there a way to flag an item so that the planning engine will not plan that item?

 We have three categories of items.  Metal, Vinyl, and OPP.  OPP items make up the majority of our individual SKU's but we only need to plan a small percentage of these items.  I am searching for a way to "flag" the item so that the plan does not consider it when it runs through the entire planning process.
Any suggestions would be a great help.
