Q on Patches by Family functionality

Scenario: Select Patches by Family, starting with RDBMS Server, then going to Release.  The Release pick list (which show max 13 entries at a time) starts at DB version 7.3.4.0 and progresses through 45 entries to the most current, of which the last 15 are under current support.

Question:  Is there a reason for sorting the (required) selection list of versions in ascending order?    I'm willing to learn - please advise of the advantage to the user for putting the most obsolete version first, and the most used last?
