runInstaller fails silently on RHEL(and Centos) 5.4x86 for 11g

I've gone back and tested this further and believe I know the reason, but not the root cause. It appears to be a bug in the way the Oracle installer works.

The last line in the log is about setting the umask and the runInstaller programs ends with no error message. I've tried this with both 11.1 and 11.2.

The reason appears to be the fact I have a very large / partition, where /tmp lives. The system is a very simple set up with three 1.5TB drives set up in software raid 5 with a single partition for / (/dev/md0) and another small partion for /boot. All other software and services run without issue in this configuration.
