Warranty ended today but status is already expired

For testing purposes I used a combination of cascade attributes and install date synchronization to change the end date of the warranty to today.  When I returned to the warranty contract I found the status had already changed to Expired.  I didn't expect the contract to become expired until tomorrow.  Is this behavior different for warranties than other types of contracts?
