audit_trail=db_extended setting causing problems after Octcpu2009

 After applying the last critical patch for oracle 10.2.0.4 database, my databases all became very slow and I started to get deadlock errors in the alert log for packages... belonging to SYSMAN.  Also had problems with dbconsole, had to reload it. 

I was able to (so far) fix the databases using Enterprise Edition but I am having problems with the databases using Standard Edition.  As soon as I set audit_trail=db_extended, I loose the ability to access db console.

I tried to find something in the documentation that came with the Oct 10 critical patch update but I found nothing.
