Need to base approver on Requestor instead of Preparer

 I am finding conflicting information on Metalink.  We are implementing AME.B on 11.5.10.2.  One of the biggest drivers behind this is to base the approval hierarchy on the requestor, not the preparer.  Metalink note 416483.1 says that Using AME the approval list can be built based on the requestor, but it gives no details as to how to do this.

Metalink note 756512.1 says that it can't be done. 

Does anyone have any experience with this?
