Multiple Oracle Version Homes

 In the past when we upgraded our Oracle version we would upgrade the whole server. ie all databases would be upgraded with one single Oracle Home on Windows (currently 32bit, hopefully approval for 64bit).

We have an opportunity to build a single powerful server to consolidate our current production server.

My question is ... While it is possible to run multiple versions of Oracle on the same server what are some of the issues you expereienced doing so?

Is patching or maintenance error prone?

Did user connectivity cause application issues?
