11g listener slow

 I've encountered an interesting thing.  I have an 11g database on a remote server.  If I use the 11g tnsping on hp-ux itanium, it takes 2500+ ms to come back, but with an 10gR2 tnsping on the same server, it is 10ms or less.  Is this something anyone on here has seen before?  I don't see anything too off-the-wall in either tnsnames.ora or sqlnet.ora on the local box.  Both are the same for each tnsping used.
